詞語：辨析human和humane
human，humane
這兩個詞都是形容詞，由于拼法相近，故易混淆。
Human/hju: m+n/的意思是人的、人類的（of man or belonging to man），它是個中性詞，能用于褒義場合，如human virtues；human achievement，也能用于貶義場合，如human follies；human vices.例：
This is what we call human touch or human nature．
這就是我們所謂的人情味或人性。
The cruelty of the enemies suggests that they are less thanhuman．
敵人的殘暴行為暴露了他們的豺狼本性。
Humane/hju: mein/的意思是仁慈的、人道的（benevolent or humanistic），它是個褒義詞。例：
On returning to Japan，the prisoners of war expressed their gratitude for the humane treatment they had received in China．
日本戰俘在返國時，對他們在中國所受到的人道待遇表示感激。
What we have done is in full accord with the humane spirit．
我們所做的'一切都是完全符合人道精神的。
應當在此指出，在18世紀之前，human和humane 在涵義和用法上并沒有區別，往往可以互換使用。例如在莎士比亞的作品里，就出現human statute的說法，我們今天都是用 humane.英國詩人 Alexander Pope也寫過To err is humane，to forgive divine的詩句，我們今天則說：To err is human.
